[ she's fine with him pretending to not notice that she's noticing him and trying not to notice her. ...sure, that made sense. she doesn't look smug, but her grin is only just shy of mischievous, and she's not really hiding that either, unless you count taking a long drink from her cup ]

Hey, who said anything about it being a dumb idea? [ eh, she doesn't mind it. the shirtlessness. nope. not one bit, actually! ] I was kidding though. This theme doesn't really scream "Hiccup". There haven't been enough people walking around questioning the decorations and you having to explain it. [ yes she's laughing at her own joke what of it ]

Oh, so it isn't dumb to throw a party that's main focus is exposed chests with everyone just checking each other out?

[He doesn't even realize what he says until it's already out of his mouth. Normally, he'd glance down awkwardly, but somehow doing that right now would only make him feel even more awkward, so he has to settle for looking at her straight in the eye.]

But really, y-you're on a roll with those compliments tonight, aren't you? As I said, my ideas are just normally misunderstood.

I don't think so, no. [ and she might even be giving him a small glance down as she says it, just to be obvious about it. but she's smirking after, so maybe she's just being an ass. maybe. ]

and then she's breaking out of that little show, and giving him a punch on the arm ]

C'mon, don't be a dork. I like your ideas, you know that. Once, you know, I get a second to think them out.

[The compliments are obviously jokes and they even sound ridiculous, but it doesn't change the fact that they're turning him red in the face. Because kidding or not, she was talking about his body right now.

Even when he feels the jolt of pain from where a bruise might start to form, his blush is still reflected in the glare he shoots at her.]

You've got amazing accuracy to get me in the same exact spot where I got a bruise from you last time.

[Yet somehow, he still ends up smiling, giving a light chuckle, even as he's rubbing at the pain on his arm.] You are ... a very complex lady, Miss Hofferson.

[ she'll just be taking a big sip of her drink to hide how wide her smile grows in response to all that blushing, because it's kind of cute, okay, that color looks cute on those cheeks. and she's a complete idiot for thinking, she knows, which is why she's making that sip last as long as she can manage before she needs a breath ]

Just keep drinking that jungle juice, that should clear up any and all complexities you seem to think I have.

[Hiccup raises an eyebrow at her statement, trying to hold back a slight grin.]

You aren't trying to get me drunk now, are you?

[Of course, he's still going to bring up his drink to his lips and take a few gulps of it, almost like accepting a challenge.

The thing about Astrid was that her straightforward, pushy tendencies weren't offensive in the slightest. In fact, most of the time, it really encouraged him to step a bit more outside of his shell. And well, maybe he liked that a bit about her.

Not that he liked her or anything. Of course not. It was just nice to have her around sometimes. And she was gorgeous and awe-inspiring and thrilling and all of that stuff and okay maybe he liked her a bit, kind of, okay.]

Trying. Like it takes any effort on anyone's part to get you drunk.

[ but ah, it's fun. drunk Hiccup is kind of a blast. not that she's actually trying to get him drunk, no, but she doesn't mind hanging out with him when he does decide to get drunk, doesn't mind his tolerance. or, um, lack thereof. sometimes it's better than other times. most of the time it's just really, really amusing. ]

Of course, if it makes you feel better to pretend someone's trying to get you drunk, I don't mind being that person. As long as we don't try to turn it into some kind of contest, I'm sure you'll be fine.

[A big fat lie, of course. Even if he wasn't as weak as he was when he first tried alcohol, he was still pretty small, hence fell into drunkenness rather fast. It was common knowledge that he could never hide very well.

But he raises an eyebrow at her words, in amusement but unsure of what her intentions might be.] Oh, really? Alright, then. Let's pretend that you are. What reasons would I need to get drunk for? You know, other than possibly wanting to see me make a fool of myself somehow.

[ big fat lie indeed, one she's perfectly aware of, but she'll let him have that one with only a tiny bit of doubt on her end. she could bring up examples, probably draw charts. number of shots to how ridiculous Hiccup can get ratios could be equated. ]

It's a party! Why does anybody want to get drunk at a party? But hey, maybe you're looking for a cover to go with in the morning, after everything's over and done with and people are asking "Wow, Hiccup, what got into you last night?" You'll be able to say - [ yep, here comes her Hiccup impression ] "Well jeeze, guys! Astrid just wouldn't quit refilling my drink! She's quite the partier when she wants to be, and I couldn't let her drink all that vodka on her own!"

You know, something like that.

[Hiccup laughs loudly at the impression, highly amused by her attempt at the nasally tone.] I don't sound like that at all! Where'd you even pick up that voice from?

[Still, he has to hold a hand against his stomach to try and bottle up some of his left over chuckling.] Oh, but you're right. You caught me. All this time, I was just looking to make you into my little scapegoat, Astrid.
